Getachew Kassa (MSc, PhD)

Dr. Getachew Kassa earned his Ph.D. in Reproductive Health, a Master of Science, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He was selected as a 2018 Impact Evaluation Fellow by the East Africa Social Science Translation (EASST) Collaborative at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, he served as a 2021 Fellow of the Contextualizing Impact Evaluation Pedagogy in Africa (CIPA) program, a 2019 Research Transparency and Reproducibility Fellow, and a 2018 Policy Communication Fellow.Dr. Kassa completed his postdoctoral research at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, with a focus on maternal and child health epidemiology.

With over a decade of experience, Dr. Kassa is a dedicated researcher specializing in psychiatry, mental health, behavioral interventions, and maternal and child health. He is passionate about developing innovative interventions for child mental and behavioral health, as well as parenting programs. His research interests also include adolescent health, reproductive health, infectious diseases, and population and fertility issues.

Dr. Kassa has extensive expertise in systematic reviews and meta-analyses, impact evaluation, decision-focused evaluations, human-centered design, and both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. He is highly skilled in utilizing advanced software tools such as SPSS, Stata, and R for quantitative analysis, as well as NVivo and ATLAS.ti for qualitative data analysis. Dr. Kassa has authored over 90 research papers in reputable journals and serves on the editorial boards of Nature’s Scientific Reports, Reproductive Health, and Women’s Health journals.

Beyond research, Dr. Kassa is committed to community engagement and served as a consultant for various organizations in Ethiopia and Kenya, particularly in the areas of impact evaluation, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and early childhood development. His leadership and expertise have contributed to programs that foster resilience, improve parent-child relationships, and promote sustainable development.
